Quick follow-up confirming the GTK hypothesis: I just performed an isolated test. I downloaded the exact same PDF file from the exact same portal, but this time using Google Chrome (with a User-Agent switcher to bypass portal restrictions). The result: No crash. Chrome downloaded and saved the file perfectly, and the system remained completely stable. This definitively proves that the hard lockup is not related to general I/O, filesystem, or the PDF file itself.
