[Bug 2063497] Re: MIPI camera on Lenovo Carbon X1 will not work

An update on this. There have been a number of ipu6 driver
improvements and the web cam on my Lenovo X1 Gen 11 works some fraction
of the time. There *does* seem to be a timing problem with the hardware
and/or driver.

https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/187 proposes kernel patches
which addresses the issue by adding a delay. Reports suggest that this
fixes the problem on Lenovo laptops plagued by this instability. I can
confirm that MWE fails for me approx 50% of the time but have not
rebuilt a kernel from source with the patches myself.

Is there any way that to request that these patches get into an Ubuntu
Mainline build?

Title:
MIPI camera on Lenovo Carbon X1 will not work

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Noble:
Confirmed

Bug description:
I followed the suggestions here for handling the Intel MIPI camera
replacing 22.04 for 24.04: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lenovo

Perhaps I should have installed 22.04? Anyway, this is a new laptop
so I went with the new release.

I tried both the generic and oem kernel. Same. The pertinent message
seems to be:

[ 18.420012] intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: Direct firmware load for intel/ipu6ep_fw.bin failed with error -2
[ 18.420017] intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: Requesting signed firmware failed
[ 18.420023] intel-ipu6: probe of 0000:00:05.0 failed with error -2
