[Bug 1976160] Re: Sound card not detected (Dummy Output) after update to kernel 4.15.0-177-generic or 4.15.0.180-generic

@Brendan, the package was simply 'linux' so moving....
Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) reached end-of-standard-support on May 31, 2023.
So changing status to 'Incomplete'
Is this still an issue when using a currently supported release?

** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

Title:
Sound card not detected (Dummy Output) after update to kernel
4.15.0-177-generic or 4.15.0.180-generic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete

Bug description:
Regular update including new kernel images. After reboot, sound was
not working and only the dummy output is shown.

Description: Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
Release: 18.04
Package: linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic (also happens with 180-generic
Hardware: Dell XPS 13 with Intel HD onboard sound (Realtek HD ALC3246)

Expected: Sound to work, mic to work, sound card recognised in settings.
What happened instead: Dummy sound only available card, sound does not work, mic does not work

Tried: Restarting pulse audio, grepping lsmod for a sound card
(nothing listed)

Workaround: Everything works fine if I boot into 4.15.0-176-generic
