Title:
ThinkBook 14+ GXTP5100 Touchpad Movement Not Working on Ubuntu 24.10
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Title: ThinkBook 14+ GXTP5100 Touchpad Movement Not Working on Ubuntu
24.10
Description:
My ThinkBook 14+ laptop's touchpad (GXTP5100:00 27C6:01E9) is partially functional on Ubuntu 24.10. While clicking works, cursor movement does not work at all. The touchpad works perfectly in Windows, confirming this is not a hardware issue.
System Information:
- Device: ThinkBook 14+
- Ubuntu Version: 24.10
- Kernel Version: 6.11.0-13-generic
- Display Server: Wayland
- Touchpad: GXTP5100:00 27C6:01E9 (Goodix)
Symptoms:
- Touchpad clicks are detected and working
- Cursor movement does not work at all
- Two-finger scrolling does not work
- The touchpad is detected by the system and shows up in device listings
Relevant Technical Details:
1. The touchpad is detected as both Mouse and Touchpad devices:
GXTP5100:00 27C6:01E9 Mouse
GXTP5100:00 27C6:01E9 Touchpad
2. Kernel logs show a HID descriptor parsing error:
"hid-generic 0018:27C6:01E9.0001: item 0 1 0 11 parsing failed"
"hid-generic 0018:27C6:01E9.0001: probe with driver hid-generic failed with error -22"
3. A GT7868Q descriptor fixup is being applied:
"hid-multitouch 0018:27C6:01E9.0001: GT7868Q report descriptor fixup is applied."
4. evtest shows pressure events but no X/Y position events are being
reported.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fresh install of Ubuntu 24.10
2. Boot into system
3. Attempt to move cursor with touchpad
Expected Result:
Touchpad should allow cursor movement like it does in Windows.
Actual Result:
Cursor doesn't move at all, though clicking functions work.
Additional Notes:
- This appears to be a driver issue since the hardware works perfectly in Windows
- The touchpad is reporting pressure events but no position/movement events

Kernel trees have accumulated packaging cruft over time. While it

Support TDX host in questing
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux source package in Questing:
Fix Committed
Bug description:
Since 6.16, TDX host is supported in the kernel but is incompatible with kexec.
A cache flush is required in case TDX has been enabled before doing a kexec to avoid silent memory corruption in the new kernel.
An upstream submission [0] fix this. The upstream submission is now a v8 and is likely to be merged soon.
4 conditions are required at runtime to enable TDX Host:
- Hibernation disabled.
- TDX enabled in the bios.
- kvm_intel.tdx=1 set in the bootcommand line.
- Hardware support.
Two limitation are coming with this submission:
- In specific platforms (SPR/EMR), enabling TDX (all conditions fulfilled) will disable kexec due to hardware limitations.
- After kexec, TDX can't be used. This error will manifest by having a dmesg entry similar to:
virt/tdx: SEAMCALL (0x0000000000000021) failed: 0xc000050000000000
This has been applied on top of questing Ubuntu-6.17.0-3.3 and tested
on supported hardware by enabling TDX and using kexec into a new
kernel.

[Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock
Yes, I've tried different cables, including both DisplayPort and HDMI,
and the result is the same. Curiously, the flickering issue switches
between my two external monitors depending on which one I unplug and

Bug description:
Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with automatic external monitor detection
when connected via a Dell Pro Thunderbolt 4 Dock (SD25TB4) on my Dell
Precision 5490 laptop, running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS.
The external monitor (connected via DisplayPort on the dock) is not
automatically detected by the system when the laptop starts or when I
connect the dock with the monitor already plugged in. The xrandr
--listmonitors command initially only lists the laptop's built-in
screen.
However, the external monitor works correctly if, after the system has
booted and the dock is connected, I manually unplug and re-plug ONLY
the DisplayPort cable on the docking station. This action triggers the
detection and activation of the display.
Hardware Information:
Laptop: Dell Precision 5490
Docking Station: Dell Pro Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock (SD25TB4)

Software Information:
Linux Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
Linux Kernel Version: 6.11.0-24-generic
Intel Graphics Driver: i915 (confirmed by lspci)
NVIDIA Graphics Driver: nvidia (proprietary driver, confirmed by lspci)
NVIDIA Driver Version: nvidia-driver-570-open
Optimus Graphics Mode: on-demand (confirmed by prime-select query). Testing nvidia exclusive mode did not resolve automatic detection at boot.
bolt Version : 0.9.7-1
xrandr Version: 1.5.2
Steps to Reproduce the Bug:
Connect the Dell SD25TB4 docking station to the Dell Precision 5490 laptop using the Thunderbolt/USB-C cable.
Connect the external monitor to the docking station via DisplayPort.
Boot the laptop into Linux (Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS).
After the graphical session loads, observe that the external monitor is not detected (it remains black/in standby).
Open a terminal and run xrandr --listmonitors (it will only list the internal display).
Expected Behavior:
The external monitor should be automatically detected by the Linux
system at boot or shortly after connecting the docking station and
enabled according to display settings.
Observed Behavior:
The external monitor is not automatically detected at boot or dock
connection.
Workaround:
The issue can be resolved by manually unplugging and re-plugging ONLY
the DisplayPort cable on the docking station after the system has
booted. The monitor is then immediately detected and works.

Finding regarding dmesg / journalctl logs:
We attempted to capture kernel logs (sudo dmesg -C followed by sudo dmesg -k or sudo journalctl --since ...) while performing the action of replugging the DisplayPort cable that makes the display work.
Despite the manual action triggering detection, these logs showed NO relevant messages or standard display hotplug events related to the drm, nvidia, i915, thunderbolt, usb4, DP, DisplayPort, EDID, connector, or hotplug layers at the time of the manual action. This seems to indicates that the low-level detection event is not being correctly signaled or logged. We dont really know why.

This bug makes the daily use of the external monitor via the docking
station inconvenient, requiring a manual intervention (unplugging/re-
plugging the DisplayPort cable) with each connection or restart.

There is a bug in a catpt which is fixed and pending for upstream. Just
to head up. So, the volume is pretty much normal with the fix and on
100% on all knobs it may be quite loud and hurt the ears! Be careful :-)
(But I am happy to hear the normal sound on a 50% master volume on
Fedora 42, thanks again to Amadeusz to nail this down and fix!)

Hello!
I noticed that since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on
Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 (Intel Core M-5Y71; rt286). Turns out that
happened because SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT was enabled in kernel

[Bug 2122114] Re: package linux-headers-generic-hwe-24.04 6.17.0-3.3 failed to install/upgrade: problemas de dependência - deixando desconfigurado
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
